Le Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ) announced their nominees this week and I am super happy that Chillage Extrême was nominated for Best Hip Hop Album and The Parade was nominated for Best Country/Folk album! Congrats to JCC and all his crew and Congrats to Camaromance and her posse!

I think it’s a good time to mention that Lazy At Work only released two full lenghts with new material this year and both were nominated so Congrats to us too!

HEXES & OHS – Share (Remixes)

SHARE (Remixes) is a remix project featuring collaborations between Hexes & Ohs and seven of their admired fellow Canadians friends. They are the Bicycles, Camaromance, DT666 (aka Patrick Pentland of Sloan), Montag, OPOPO, Sloan and vitaminsforyou. Unlike typical remix albums, this one here is a two way street, Hexes & Ohs have their songs remixed and in turn remix others’ songs. The result became a sort of dialogue between the artists. It’s colorful and diverse, but unified by the common ingredient.

Le Roi Poisson, malgré son nom (au) singulier, est l’antithèse d’un projet personnel: c’est une démocratie, avec une légère tendance à l’anarchie. Les consensus sont rares, mais les majorités, inévitables, puisqu’ils sont cinq. Donc, de l’ostinage, des compromis, des débats sans fin et en bout de ligne, de la musique éclatée où tout le monde est heureux.

Ils auraient pu vous en pondre 15, mais le groupe à préféré mettre toutes ses énergies sur ces neuf ‘tracks’ intègres et minutieusement peaufinées, un bon 32 minutes de pur bonheur, le tout réalisé par Etienne Dupuis-Cloutier (Half Baked, Balboa(les invicibles)) et produit en 33 jours ! Contrairement à leur premier EP, on perçoit ici une profondeur certaine, fruit d’une maturité acquise après de nombreux essais et erreurs, mais toujours tinté d’une simplicité volontaire et attachante.
