It stars the lovable Michael Cera and judging from the trailer, seems a great fit. The visual effects and the tone feel spot on as well. The name “Scott Pilgrim” comes from a song from the band 90’s halifax indie-poppres Plumtree, whom I adore.

Montreal, Monday, February 1st, 2010 – Finally, she’s back… and she couldn’t wait a minute more to be back on stage again playing her music. Martine Groulx, aka Camaromance is presenting a third album called The Parade available on Tuesday, March 2nd on her own label Lazy at Work.

Those who were there at the Festival de musique émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue last September, where Camaromance sang her new songs in front of people for the first time, were surprised: she gained so much in maturity and feminity since her second album Different Paths in 2006. A perfect mix between Americana music and folk/pop sensibility, The Parade is the album of a women now in full control of her destiny, who is now leading the parade instead of watching it. You can already listen to the song The Great Divide right here!

Produced by Serge Nakauchi Pelletier (Pawa Up First, guitariste de Beast) and mixed by Alexandre Fallu (Damien Robitaille, Yann Perreau, Thomas Hellman), The Parade also includes collaborations by François Plante (Plaster, For Those About to Love, Dumas), Alex McMahon (Plaster, Yann Perreau, Ariane Moffatt), Jérôme Dupuis-Cloutier (Le Roi Poisson, Le Citoyen) and Tasha Cyr (The Darling DeMaes).

Canadian tour in March
After the album launch on March 3rd at the Divan Orange where she will perform some of her new songs, Camaromance will kick off a tour of Western Canada to promote the album. Her official Montreal show will happen later this spring.

March 11th: Loplops (Sault Ste. Marie, ON)
March 12th: The Apollo (Thunder Bar, ON)
March 13th: Lo Pub (Winnipeg, MN)
March 14th: The Exchange (Regina, SK)
March 15th: Haven Social Club (Edmonton, AB)
March 16th: Vern’s (Calgary, AB)
March 17th: The Cottage Bistro (Vancouver, BC)
March 18th: The Main (Vancouver, BC)
March 19th: The Streaming Café (Kelowna, BC)

Ready to join the Parade? The invitation is now in your hands …

James Cameron’s new epic is breaking box-office records and is poised to be the top grossing film of all time. I saw it over the holidays in all of it’s 3-d grandeur and it’s easy to understand why. It’s got everything the average movie-goer looks for: action, violence, romance, fantastical monsters, conflict and a happy ending. Did I mention it was in 3-D?

Though my accompanying girlfriend and friend thoroughly enjoyed the film, I failed to see what the fuss is all about. I thought the characters were one-dimensional, the visual design unimaginative, the dialogue dry, and the whole production laden with embarrassing details (calling the sought-after mineral “unobtanium” and using the common and much ridiculed typeface “papyrus” in its subtitles, to name a few). Among my circle of friends, the main justification to see this thing was from a technological innovation standpoint, but some even praised it’s storyline, some going as far as declaring Avatar as some kind of cinematic beacon. Still, one crucial upsetting aspect about the film evaded me. I felt offended by the storyline somehow but couldn’t put my finger on it. It was only a couple of days ago that I discovered a great article on i09.com that articulated my distaste perfectly. I thought I was just a curmudgeon, but apparently, I’m not the only one.

I think it is long overdue that I give Richmond Lam (who also happens to be my brother) some public kudos. If you aren’t already familiar with the name, you’ve no doubt seen his work around, especially if you live in Montreal. He’s shot covers for Nightlife Magazine, Naked Eye, and countless other arts blogs and websites like Spin.com, working with the Kids in the Hall, Sam Roberts, Crystal Castles and most recently La Grand Ballet Canadien. His photographs seem effortless, fashionable but timeless. He just did our new Hexes & Ohs press shots, can’t wait til they’re all done.
